About Mike Johnson

My name is Mike Johnson, and I’ve been a licensed Master Electrician in the US for over 12 years. I started specializing in solar + EV charging in 2017 when the first Tesla Model 3s began hitting US roads and homeowners realized most of their free rooftop solar was just getting exported for pennies.

I also spent time working in Australia, where I gained valuable experience in international solar and EV standards, which has informed my approach to diverse climates and regulations here in the States.

Since then, I’ve personally designed and installed more than 400 solar-aware EV charging systems across California, Texas, Florida, Arizona, and Coloradoeverything from 6.6 kW single-phase setups in suburban Austin to 30+ kW three-phase commercial installs in Denver.

I’m not a blogger who read a few forums. I’m the guy who turns up at 7 a.m. with tools, climbs on your roof if needed, and makes sure your EV actually drinks the solar you paid fornot the grid power that costs you 15-25 cents/kWh.
